Dear Walla Walla Catholic School families,
As most of you were made aware of by Father Seidel, our schools experienced two unrelated positive COVID-19 cases at DeSales within the last week. As Father mentioned in
his note from Wednesday, these decisions regarding the shift of learning modalities are not at all connected with those two particular positive cases, but are only as a result of the overall numbers of COVID-19 cases in our cities. These two particular cases were identified as exposures outside our schools. Though we have some areas to improve and no plan can guarantee eliminating all COVID-19 exposure in schools, we can find confidence in our protocols and efforts to negate or limit any additional exposure in our schools for our students and staff. It is a credit to our staff in their success implementing our protocols and procedures.
As we identified early on, and what has become extremely clear over the last week, the success of any plan also relies on the efforts and cooperation of our whole community, students and parents. The importance of our daily health screening, wearing masks, social distancing and hand washing can’t be stressed enough. These are not only important at, and in, our schools but are significant outside our schools as well. As a parent, in addition to being a Principal, I understand the challenges and needs, particularly the social and emotional needs, of our students during this time. However, we also need to balance our decisions and directions with our children and must be thoughtful of the rest of our school community.
The traditional Walla Walla Catholic Schools characteristic of individuals looking outside themselves for the benefit of all has never been more important for us than it is today. Thanks to all of you who have been and continue to be vigilant for the sake of the health and safety of our entire school community.
