In the Spiritual Exercises, St. Ignatius of Loyola enjoined his followers to make a regular examination of the activities of their day, seeing the times in which they responded to the work and the grace of God as well as the times they sinned and rejected God’s work. This common Catholic practice can also be seen in the Mass and, of course, in the sacrament of confession.
The practice of making an examination allows us to reflect upon what is going well and where it is that we need to make corrections. In addition to our personal lives, this process of examination is important in the work of our school. Anthony Bryk in Learning to Improve: How America’s Schools Can Get Better at Getting Better, says that the efforts of improvement in science are, “often wrong and always incomplete.” As such, it is necessary to gather information about the work we are doing at the school so that we can always be growing.
Every week we will request feedback using the Cultural Plus/Delta form found below. Please take a moment to fill out the form letting us know what is going well, where we can improve, and possible solutions you see to the challenges we face.
