A Message from the Principal: Parent Survey Results
Typically during this time of year I would hope that all of our families are enjoying a relaxing summer, but given our current situation and conditions, I know there is some anxiety and possible frustration that comes from the uncertainty of our near future, particularly with our children and school.
It is understood that many parents want details of what exactly school will look like in the fall. While we are not able to provide specific details this week, I wanted to share some of the information we gathered as a result of the survey. We are continuing to work through the numerous details of reopening, and will communicate them just as soon as it is feasible to do so.
Thanks to all of you who so promptly and thoughtfully completed our
parent survey on our reopening plans for fall. If you still wish to provide input through the survey, you have until
Friday, July 17 to share your thoughts.
In an initial review of the survey, it was affirming and comforting to know that our plan has, and will continue, to address the overwhelming majority of responses and concerns of our parents. In a basic synopsis, the vast majority of our families wished to reopen with in-person instruction as normal as possible, while ensuring the safety of our students and school. Parents were consistent in prioritizing concerns of:
Personal hygiene and a sanitizing and disinfecting protocol at school—additional hand-washing stations, sanitizer stations, cleaning schedules and disinfecting.
Consistent health screening of all those in our schools
Facemasks and coverings
And social distancing
In addition, the parent survey was clear that if there was a return to online instruction, improvements with instruction, scheduling and Google class meets will be needed. Though specific details of how we implement some of these items are receiving clarification, rest assured that we have addressed and affirmed these, as well as those mentioned above.
Further finalization of our reopening plan included a meeting this week with our faculty to review our reopening framework and to develop staff groups to clarify and define the practical implementation of these safety procedures and protocols at our respective schools and within their classrooms.
Edie Mulvihill, supervisor of our maintenance personnel, has worked with our maintenance personnel and administration to develop our sanitization protocol at both facilities, which not only includes a detailed cleaning and disinfecting plan, but also the purchase of hand-washing and sanitizing stations and other cleaning supplies and equipment for our schools.
Additionally, we will meet with our local Health Department, who has scheduled times over the next week to review school reopening plans for all our schools and school districts in the county.
Though we cannot address all the uncertainty of our near future and while more work lay ahead, we have worked at developing plans over the last several months that address as many of the educational, emotional and safety needs for our students, staff and families as possible.
Please feel free to
contact me should you have any immediate concerns regarding the upcoming school year.
Enjoy your family and summer over the next several weeks.
